Rubén Aguirre’s mural work is driven by the experience of new spaces, using each project as an opportunity for research, reflection, and dialogue. His public art responds directly to the architecture which it inhabits, creating a deeper connection between people and places. By researching the socio-historical context of each site, Aguirre develops a visual language that blends abstraction with subtle references to history. His murals reinterpret landscape painting, where abstraction, formalism, and symbolism converge. Aguirre has created murals across Chicago, the U.S., and internationally, with notable commissions from the City of Chicago, Google, Adidas, LinkedIn, and Starbucks. His work has been showcased at the National Museum of Mexican Art and the Chicago Cultural Center, and in 2022, he received the Helen and Tim Meier Foundation Achievement Award. His murals and exhibitions have been featured in Art News and The Atlantic.
